Safadi: Previous governments did not respect constitutional deadlines to ratify budget
Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi voiced his astonishment that the current government is accused of failing to find a legal solution to the expenses that have exceeded the expenses ceiling since the beginning of 2006. He said that as soon as the government took office in mid-2011, it started to complete the preparation of accounts, thus allowing the ratification of the 2012 budget.

Safadi said that while the previous government had committed to do this, it failed.

Safadi was also surprised at the issuance of a proposal binding the government to a certain timetable to perform calculations. He said that the Finance Ministry completed the 2012 budget within the constitutional deadline, but the ratification of the wage increase required the re-formulation of a new draft budget. Safadi added that the previous governments did not respect the constitutional deadlines to ratify the budget.
