Zahra to LBCI: LF will not cut off ties with Bkerke despite different positions

Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said on Wednesday that Patriarch Beshara Rai’s statements regarding the Syrian regime gives the impression that Rai is defending the regime and that he accepts it because he fears the alternative.

“We reiterate our respect for Bkerke, its position and leader. However, Bkerke’s position contravenes the Maronite Patriarchal legacy which was grounded in its refusal to receive the blessing of the Ottoman Empire,” Zahra told Nharkom Said TV show.

Zahra added that President Michel Sleiman has abstained from taking a position against the Syrian people despite his good relationship with Syrian President Bashar Assad.

In his concluding remarks, Zahra confirmed that the LF will not cut off their ties with Bkerke, adding that an LF delegation will soon visit the Patriarchate.
