Meat and fish weren’t enough, dairy products make their rotten debut

Dairy products joined the rotten foodstuffs list, besides the tons of rotten meat seized daily.

In Jdita in the Bekaa, dairy plants are numerous. On the ground floor of nearly every building you can find businesses producing dairy products with no regard for minimum food safety standards. These products are distributed in the markets and displayed in shop windows.

Minister of Agriculture Hussain El Hajj Hassan told LBCI that not all foodstuffs in the market are rotten, adding that 60% of the local dairy products are safe.
Hajj Hassan said that any business found operating outside of standards will be temporarily shut down until the courts take action.

Well-informed sources assured that the list of dairy plants that do not meet the health standards is nearly complete but will not be revealed until investigations are over.
