Geagea: Rai’s political statements do not reflect LF aspirations

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea criticized on Monday the ministerial situation, notably the deepening electricity crisis.   

“The position of the Change and Reform bloc on the electricity issue is one of ‘Abide by our rules or there will be no electricity in Lebanon’”, he said during a press interview in Maarab following his meeting with MP Sami Gemmayel.         

Asked on the likelihood of the cabinet collapse over the worsening electricity issue, Geagea wondered “is there a cabinet to collapse in the first place? But if you are asking about its [official collapse], this will happen sooner or later.”         

On the appointment of a head of the Higher Judicial Council, Geagea said that there are many eligible and qualified candidates but Change and Reform Bloc leader MP Michel Aoun insists on submitting a candidate that is not as eligible as those already tabled.     

Commenting on his stance on Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai, Geagea confirmed that “my stance on Bkerke’s position is still the same and the patriarch’s political statements do not reflect my aspirations. My criticism is a reflection of my deep appreciation [for Rai].”         

Asked on the participation of the Kataeb party in the Bkerke Mass on Sunday, Geagea said that the March 14 camp embraces a group of parties that share a unified view for Lebanon but at the same time each party has a different approach.
