Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants said in reply to Saudi Arabia’s halt of aid to equipping and supporting Lebanese security forces that Minister Gebran Bassil’s position at the Arab Foreign Ministers Conference was based on a ministerial statement and in coordination with Prime Minister Tammam Salam.
In a statement, the Ministry added that “the Lebanese stances announced in aims of gaining private political interests, are forging the truth on Lebanon’s real position and causing extra tensions in the Lebanese- Saudi relations as well as internal strains."
On another note, the press release added that the relations between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon are not circumstantial; as there are long historic ties between both countries and their people.
“Saudi Arabia’s new position on Lebanon will not eliminate the Lebanese people’s concerns towards maintaining relations.”
