REPORT: Quorum almost reached at 36th electoral session
Speaker Berri postponed on Wednesday the presidential elections session to March 23 as only 72 MPs attended today’s session.  
 
Future Movement leader Saad Hariri, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt and MP Nayla Tueini made a rare appearance for the Parliament vote. 
 
Following the postponement of the session, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri said that “today the quorum was close,” hoping that those who were absent will attend the next session in a bid to end the presidential vacuum.​ On another note, he said that Hezbollah’s activities in the region have led to listing it as a terrorist organization.”​
 
Hariri stressed his commitment to MP Sleiman Frangieh; expressing understanding towards the latter’s position.​
 
“I will not accuse everyone of obstruction,” he stated, pointing out that the dialogue with Hezbollah ill reach a result “sooner or later.”​
 
Answering a question about his stay in Lebanon, he noted that will stay in the country until the next electoral session, reiterating the need to protect Lebanon from the repercussions of the Syrian war.​
 
For his part, head of the Kataeb party MP Sami Gemayel said from the Parliament that “we have had enough of maneuvers and it has become unacceptable that deputies attend the electoral session of two candidates who boycott the elections.”​
 
He called on all political parties to reconsider their stances.  
 
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of president Michel Suleiman ended in May 2014 and the Free Patriotic Movement, Hezbollah and some of their allies have been boycotting the electoral sessions.
