Future MP Houry: Bassil is trying to cover up “his lethal mistake”

Future bloc MP Ammar Houry commented on Saturday on the press conference held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil.

Houry noted that the naturalization is “out of question,” adding that Prime Minister Tammam Salam was “absolutely clear’ in asserting that such an issue was not tabled during any official visits.

He also noted that the naturalization is refuted by all political powers without any reservation, adding that Bassil is attempting to cover up “his lethal mistake” of not welcoming the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his official visit to Lebanon.

Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil on Saturday expressed regret that the Lebanese people speak of the Syrian refugee settlement as if it’s something very normal.

“If Lebanon does not take unilateral steps, then the naturalization of the Syrians will be imposed on us,” Bassil said, adding that “some politicians remained silent over this issue for political and sectarian interests.”

Ban Ki-moon wrapped up on Saturday his two-day official visit to Lebanon, where he met with senior officials and toured Syrian refugee encampments.

The UN chief and his accompanying delegation headed to Iraq’s Baghdad.
