REPORT: Human trafficking network uncovered in Jounieh

The Internal Security Forces Directorate General declared on Thursday that the inquiry detachment of Mount Lebanon managed to uncover and arrest the most dangerous human trafficking network in Lebanon, located in the region of Jounieh.

The security forces released 75 women, including many Syrians, who were subject to beating and psychological and physical torture, and were forced and blackmailed into prostitution.

In a statement, the directorate said that the operation was conducted in two phases, as the security forces raided on the 27th and 29th of March, 2016, night clubs and apartments used to house the women, where they released them and arrested ten men and 8 female employees who work on managing and protecting the apartments. However, the statement added that two individuals also involved with the said network remain out of sight.

The directorate stated that the women were handed over to the relevant associations upon the call of the competent judiciary, while investigations are ongoing in order to arrest the remaining members of the gang.
