Polling stations opened at 7 am in the district of Jezzine for municipal and mokhtar elections, the district is also witnessing a by-election to fill a parliamentary seat that was left open after Member of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Helou passed away.
Four candidates are running for the parliamentary seat, Amal Hekmat Abou Zeid, Ibrahim Samir Azara, General Salah Gebran and Patrick Rezq Allah.
After casting his vote Azara said that they’re competing to serve Jezzine, stressing that it’s not a political competition.
Meanwhile,Abou Zeid said that the elections in Jezzine are going smooth, as no clashes erupted so far, pointing out that the elections are taking a pure political lead.
“If General Salah Gebran has any evidence of bribery he should bring them forward,” he added.
Gebran had previously stated that “pressure has been exerted and bribes were paid for voters by the other team. “
