REPORT: Cabinet tackles security situation

The cabinet approved Thursday a plan to expand the Jounieh-Tabarja highway, with land purchases reaching LBP 54 billion.

The cabinet held at the Grand Serail with 46 items on its agenda, and scheduled a new session on July 12.

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil noted that he stressed during the session the need to the prevent the town of al-Qaa from turning into another scenario similar to Arsal, pointing out that the army has to implement the necessary military plan in order to take control over al-Qaa.

In turn, Prime Minister Tammam Salam said that al-Qaa attacks should not be linked to the Syrian displacement, stressing that the army and the security apparatuses are on high alert.

Prior to the session, Minister of Industry Hussein al-Hajj Hassan called for dealing with the country’s ongoing events “with wisdom and realism.”

As for Education Minister Elias Bou Saab, he noted that Minister Harb “has been given a two-week time to get the files about OGERO, and that did not happen,” adding that there is procrastination lingering in this file.

Also, Minister of Tourism Michel Pharaon said that rumors circulating on social media platforms about the country’s security are inaccurate and baseless.
