Speaker Nabih Berri adjourned the 5th round of the general discussions session resumed a few moments ago in Parliament. During Thursday’s morning round, several MPs will deliver their speeches tackling critical issues.
A heated debate erupted between MPs Alain
Aoun and Ahmad Fatfat in parliament, accusations of corruption, robbery and
lies were tossed back and forth between the two men.
MP Alain Aoun told the Lebanese that they
have put the state on an upward, rather than a downward, path. “Former governments
have squandered public funds and were infested with corruption”, Aoun said.
For his part, MP Atef Majdalani said that the cabinet is pretending that funding the STL is one of its achievements, adding “however we all know who dictated the funding decision”. Majdalani added that the cabinet is flaunting its inability to make a decision.
Sources told LBCI that Speaker Nabih Berri called on all MPs to reduce the political tension during their speeches.
MP Ahmad Fatfat told LBCI that the Future Movement parliamentarian bloc shares a common point of view towards the issues raised in the discussion sessions, adding that MP Hassan Fadlallah seriously threatened everyone not to mess with Hezbollah’s weapons especially the traitors.
Fatfat addressed Hezbollah saying “Can you please explain to me how do you dialogue with traitors?”
In the first speech delivered Liberation and Development bloc MP Yassine Jaber said that the cabinet was capable of guaranteeing security and stability despite the storms in the region.
“The government dealt responsibly with several issues which gave it international credibility and opened the doors of several capitals to its PM”, Jaber added.
Jaber called on PM Najib Mikati to reinforce the government to it can resume its functions and work in unity to facilitate the appointment of the members of the oil authority.
MP Ziad al-Qaderi, for his part, attacked the cabinet saying that the current government considers that there are no state institutions but the ones they own.
“We immediately ask for holding accountable the government which has turned into a dead body”, al-Qaderi demanded.
Al-Qaderi accused the government of plotting against Lebanon’s sovereignty, considering that it came to take vengeance from Lebanon and to create crises.
During his speech Qazem el-Kheir said that the government was formed at the expense of the country and against the people’s wishes, adding that some sides wanted to change the general discussions session from assessing the government to one defending it through attacking previous governments.
Change and Reform bloc MP Ghassan Mokhaiber said that the government is suffering from several handicaps.
MP Tammam Salam addressed the parliament on the 5th round of general discussions saying that the government stopped being productive a long time ago and has shifted to a caretaker role as it is executing poorly.
Tammam added that the situation in the country is chaotic and not reassuring.
Lebanese Forces George Adwan said at the parliament that the last 50
government sessions were mainly ruled by disputes between its members.
Adwan said the LF will exert all efforts to keep this cabinet because it will allow it to win in the next elections.

said that the policy of distancing itself from Syria means the border
should be controlled from both sides and the boundary should not be
violated.
