Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb stressed Tuesday that a plan to establish a cement plant in the Aley district town of Ain Dara will not see the light of day.
“The plant, located near the largest reserve in the Middle East and near water sources that we will all need in the future, will not be set up,” Chehayeb said.
“Do not force us to take further steps,” he added.
As for the Bourj Hammoud landfill, the minister said that “if the contractor’s works were halted, the trash will return to the streets in the areas of Kesrwan, Baabda , Metn and Sahel al-Metn.”
During a ceremony held to honor Aley Mayors, Chehayeb addressed those calling for the disruption of works at the Bourj Hammoud landfill saying, “If this happens, it will be at the expense of above-mentioned districts that have no other place to dispose their waste."
