The volunteers protested for 12 days in southern Lebanon, where they erected tents and spent their nights in the open air, to call upon the government to grant them tenure.
After months of demonstrations and nationwide road closures, the government approved a decree in February that would pave the way for full-time employment and benefits for the corps of 2,400 volunteers that make up the country’s emergency first responders group.
However, the volunteers have been lamenting the slow implementation of said decree.
