Kafarabida Municipal Council called Thursday on “all environmental associations, activists and media outlets to be accurate and credible when raising environmental issues related to the town and mobilizing the public opinion based on facts lacking objectivity, especially concerning the touristic project planned to be established on the village’s beach.”
In a statement issued by the municipality, the council said that after reviewing the amendments introduced in 2009 to the decree number 975/2007, it has been revealed that no environmental harm will affect the beach or the public maritime properties.
“The amendments stipulated that the free access will remain available to the public and the land filling into the sea will not exceed 4000 square meters, while the previous decree allowed the reclamation of 37000 square meters. The amendments also annulled the private port and the sand beach, so that the rocky shore will be preserved as is,” the statement noted.
In this context, the municipality revealed that all the concerned ministries and administrations have drafted their reports and approved the project, including the Ministry of Environment, which has conducted a study to evaluate the environmental impact before the implementation.
