Jal el-Dib residents begin their planned sit in across Jal el-Dib highway
Jal el-Dib residents have taken on the streets to protests against the government’s delay in finding a solution to the area’s traffic flow.

Residents claim that the area has been blocked and isolated following the dismantlement of the Jal el-Dib bridge, which allowed traffic flow in and out of the area. Similarly the area has been suffering from continuous traffic jams which citizens have described as suffocating.

Protesters have been seen carrying Lebanese flags as they stood to block the highway from both directions. Their list of demands begins with a tunnel in place of a new bridge.

President of the Council for Development and Reconstruction Nabil Jisr promised residents that he would take the residents’ proposal to cabinet. Other prominent political figures also arrived at the scene.

The sit in lasted from 7am till 11am with a 15 minute interval at 8:30am which allowed some Lebanese citizens passage.
