Mawlawi denied release amid efforts to calm situation

Military Judge Sakr Sakr turned down on Friday a request to release Shadi Mawlawi, awaiting the completion of relevant investigations.

The judge announced that another session over the case will be held on Tuesday.

Shortly after the decision was released, contacts were held between Mufti of the North and Tripoli Malek Shaar and PM Najib Mikati in a bit to cool down the situation and to see to it that the decision does not spark reactions.

In this context, Mawlawi’s lawyer, Mohammad Hafiza, told LBCI that he is certain that the military judge will order the release of Mawlawi on Tuesday.
