The municipality of Choueifat issued a statement whereby it declared that “with the summer season drawing near, the bad smells started emanating from the Costa Brava landfill,” noting that the government and the committee tasked with the case had pledged to establish a sanitary landfill that complies with the international standards and that will be put under permanent control from all official and private bodies represented by civil society.
The municipality urged the Lebanese state with all its apparatuses and concerned ministries, as well as the Council of Development and Reconstruction, to implement immediate and urgent action to put an end to the crisis.
