US embassy urges citizens to keep "low profile" in Lebanon after violence erupts in Beirut
In an emergency message sent on Monday morning the U.S. embassy in Lebanon cautioned its citizens to keep a low profile in Lebanon during the three-day mourning period for the two Sheikhs killed by LAF troops.

At 10:17 A.M., U.S. citizens registered with their embassy in Lebanon received a security message from the American Citizen Services explaining the possibility of violence and road closures following the shooting of Sheikhs Abd al-Waheb and Merheb by LAF soldiers manning a checkpoint in Akkar.

The message explained that the Grand Mufti called for a three day mourning period during which the security situation may worsen with protests, road closures and outbreaks of violence.

Citizens were urged to keep a low profile, stay updated on road closures and avoid areas with protestors.

The U.S. State Department has a long-standing travel warning for Lebanon and reminds citizens that any evacuation would be operated on a cost-recovery basis meaning that citizens would have to repay the government for any costs incurred in getting them out of the country if the security situation worsens and commercial means of exit are cut off

Sunday's clashes spilled over into several Beirut neighborhoods following the killing of two Muslim preachers by LAF soldiers manning a checkpoint in Akkar.

The clashes that erupted between members of the Future Movement and Shaker Berjawi's Arab Movement Party resulted in serious material damage, including the burning of the headquarters of the Arab Movement Party.

Overnight protests in Corniche al-Mazraa, Kaskas, Cola and Tarik al-Jdideh near the Arab University, began with cutting off roads and burning of tires but soon turned into a heavy exchange of gunfire in Tariq al-Jdideh.
