EDL contract workers cut off roads, burn rubbish disposals
EDL contract workers reopened Cornish el Naher road, after they had blocked it to protest their inability to meet with Energy and Water Minister Gebran Bassil.

The protesting workers had earlier burnt rubbish disposals and tires as they blocked the highway adjacent to the EDL complex.

Bassil called on the follow-up committee members to discuss their problem with the Administration and Justice Parliamentary Committee.

For its part, the Administration and Justice Parliamentary Committee had a meeting with Bassil and some representatives of the workers’ follow up committee at Nejmeh square to discuss a solution.

Committee Vice President Robert Ghanem stated that the committee cannot be pressured into submission; however it is trying its utmost best to find a solution suitable to all parties.

Bassil stated that [they] have achieved more for EDL contract workers in the past 20 years than any other group. He added, that there is a bribed minority paid to cause commotion in the country.

Meanwhile EDL confirmed to LBCI that a number of employees continued working at EDL under the protection of the ISF.
