The cabinet convened in a regular session on Thursday at the Baabda presidential palace, under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun and in the presence of Prime Minister Hariri and the ministers.
The council is discussing an agenda of 34 items, in addition to urgent items that needs to be finalized.
The issue of the formation of an election supervisory committee is supposed to be tackled outside the agenda. The agenda’s items include the draft law pertaining to the quarries.
Prior to the session, a closed meeting was held between President Aoun and PM Hariri, where they discussed the general situation and latest developments.
Also prior to the meeting, Health Minister Ghassan Hasbani stressed that the ministers of the Lebanese Forces will emphasize the need to appoint a committee for election supervision, since the deadlines are drawing near. He added that they will also ask about the reasons behind the canceling of the festival of victory.
For his part, Information Minister Melhem al-Riachi denied reports stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin had asked PM Hariri to normalize relations with Syria, stressing that he called for separating Lebanon from the events taking place in Syria.
In turn, Social Affairs Minister Pierre Bou Assi noted that the Lebanese Forces ministers will raise three questions during the session, including the issue of the election supervisory committee, the reasons behind the cancelation of the festival of victory and the issue of electricity.
State Minister for Parliamentary Affair Ali Qanso said that making Lebanon a base for the reconstruction of Syria requires cooperation with the Syrian regime. He also tackled the issue of the director Ziad Doueiri.
For his part, Economy Minister Raed Khoury said that discussions in Moscow included the proposal to make Lebanon a base for the reconstruction of Syrian in partnership between the private sectors of Lebanon and Russia through free zones.
