A new crisis has started to come to light. A study conducted by two professors from the American University in Beirut revealed that the Lebanese people are using contaminated water in their everyday life.
The study says that this contamination is caused by unregulated withdrawal of water from artesian wells.
According to the study, 80% of water samples collected in one round contain “fecal coliform bacteria.”
Less than half of water tanks are subject to regular cleaning processes.
Not to mention that Beirut residents pay the highest price for water in the world, as they have four water bills: one for the Water Authority for water they do not receive, another for the water filled by water tanks (which is also polluted since the water tanks do not confirm with the standards), a bill for drinking water (the water is usually provided by unlicensed companies) and a bill for the desalination of water.
