Former Minister Baroud to LBCI: Resignation of Hariri is considered accepted once submitted

Former Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said on Saturday that the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri is considered accepted once he submitted it.

“The decree accepting the resignation is only issued shortly before the formation of the new government,” Baroud said during an interview with LBCI.

“Nothing can prevent the caretaker government from organizing the parliamentary elections,” he added.

He doubted however that the Ministry of Interior could be able of carrying out the polls.

Baroud concluded by stressing on the importance of preserving the country’s stability.

Earlier, Prime Minister Saad Hariri submitted his resignation, saying in a televised broadcast he sensed a plot to assassinate him, criticizing Iran and Hezbollah.

He said a similar atmosphere existed in the country prevailed before the assassination of his father, late prime minister Rafic Hariri.
