REPORT: Awkar protest against Trump Jerusalem decision turns into clashes

The security forces cut off on Sunday all roads leading to the US embassy in Awkar during a protest against US President Donald Trump’s decision on moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Tight security measures were taken in the vicinity of the embassy where the Lebanese Armed Forces, the Internal Security Forces and anti-riot squad were all deployed in the area to prevent protesters from getting closer to the embassy.

However, the protest soon turned into clashes where tear gas and water cannons were used by the security forces and suffocation cases among demonstrators were reported.

Also, the security forces arrested 10 people, 4 Lebanese nationals and 6 Palestinians.
