Observer chief in Syria to brief UN, violence continues

Violence continues in Syria; this as opposition media broadcasts images of bombardment on the city of Homs. The pictures showed horrific damage contained in several Syrian neighborhoods.

The Free Syrian Army called on Syrian Kurds to join in the fight for the country – stating that they would be helping lift off a cruel regime. For its part, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that it is trying to accommodate refugees from Homs, adding that opposition fighters are obstructing the fleeing residents’ routes.

The Ministry went on to accuse opposition fighter of using refugees as human shields. Meanwhile, SANA reported the burial of 16 army and UN soldiers whom were victim to rampant terrorism overtaking the country.

The head of the now suspended U.N. observer mission in Syria, Robert Mood is traveling to New York to brief the U.N. Security Council in person on Tuesday afternoon amid growing concern that the escalating violence may spell the end of the monitoring effort and international envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan.                                

Annan's six-point plan calls for an immediate cessation of fighting, first by the Syrian government and then the opposition, with the goal of launching a political dialogue.  

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister held talks with Syrian presidential advisor Buthayna Shaaban in Moscow on Monday where both officials discussed the prospect of holding an international convention to help harbor a solution for Syria. Shaaban stressed on Syria’s commitment to ending the bloodshed as soon as possible.
