Students at the Lebanese American University in Jbeil staged a protest to express rejection to the new decision issued by the administration to increase the tuition fees by 4%.
“Today we do not stand against the university, we stand against a decision taken by the administration,” a student said.
She added that “as a student centered university, the decisions taken last year and this year to increase the tuition by 5% and 4% respectively, go against their notion to be focused on the students.”
However, the dean of students said that “the economic situation in the country is very difficult,” adding that the financial aid were increased by 10% this year, raising the number of students benefitting from this aid from 30% to above 53%.
