Morsy’s win draws different reactions among rival Lebanese politicians
Lebanese officials were tuned into the results of Egypt’s presidential elections on Sunday to know the political destination of Egypt.

The win of Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate Mohammad Morsy drew different reactions among Lebanese officials as some of them voiced concern and fear while others described the win as a “triumph of democracy”

In this context, Future Movement MP Ammar Houri told LBCI that the speech delivered by Morsy is “convincing” and reassures Arabs in general and Egyptians in particular.

“The Arab Spring defeats dictatorships and replace them with democracies”, he stressed.

In turn, Change and Reform MP Ibrahim Kanaan expressed through LBCI his concern over the rise to power of any regime with “fundamentalist tendencies”, calling on the newly-elected president to reassure all the components of the Egyptian community, particularly the minorities.

As for the Lebanese Forces leader, Samir Geagea, he sent a cable to Morsy, congratulating him on his win. He also praised his “political struggle” and urged him to protect the country’s cultural, religious and political pluralism.

In turn, Hezbollah congratulated the Egyptian people for the historic electoral accomplishment they achieved through their presence in squares in large numbers, their patience and their keenness to protect this achievement from any manipulation or fraud. Hezbollah added that this was a qualitative and crucial step towards the realization of the “noble goals of this blessed revolution”.

Hezbollah also congratulated newly-elected president Dr. Mohammed Morsy for earning the precious trust of the Egyptian people. The party asked God to help him assume his “great” responsibility at this critical phase of Egypt and the region’s history, to fulfill the aspirations of the Egyptian people, restore Egypt’s “advanced Arab and Islamic position in defending the nation’s causes and shaping the region’s future and fate
