Berri says vote of confidence session next week if Policy Statement finalized Thursday

Speaker Nabih Berri expressed his relief over the formation of the new government, noting that many major challenges lie ahead and hoping that work will kick off immediately to face these issues and compensate for the wasted times to fulfill the aspirations of the citizens.

During Wednesday’s deputies gathering in Ain al-Tineh, Berri reiterated his commitment that the parliament will follow up on the governmental work by holding monthly sessions to monitor and legislate.

"If the government finalizes the Policy Statement tomorrow [Thursday], the parliament's vote of confidence will take place upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday and on Friday if need be," he pointed out.

On another note, the speaker referred to a dangerous issue related to Israel taking advantage of lands close to the Lebanese southern maritime borders, noting that this violates Lebanon’s sovereignty and maritime oil reserves.

He added that this issue must not pass unnoticed; stressing that he will tackle it with Italy’s PM, who is visiting Lebanon, as well as with other international senior officials.
