Siniora: Whole $11 billion issue is just a storm in a teacup

Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora held on Friday a press conference to clarify the latest controversy after MP Hassan Fadlallah’s comments on the “missing 11 billion US dollars.”

In the press conference, Siniora said that the spent funds were not illegal, adding that he prepared a complete study on the issue that he will submit to President Michel Aoun, the Cabinet and the Parliament.

“The entire issue is just a storm in a teacup,” he added.

“What is happening today reminds me of what happened 20 years ago regarding the Bourj Hammoud scandal," he said.

Siniora concluded by saying that “the biggest corruption is the political corruption.”

“A politically corrupt person is anyone who sets up mini-states inside the state, anyone who controls state’s facilities and impedes constitutional junctures,” he stressed.
