Mikati says government to endorse plan for reinforcement of military institution

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Wednesday that protecting the internal Lebanese arena has become an additional task for the Lebanese army, pointing out the critical circumstances Lebanon has been undergoing.

On the occasion of the Lebanese Army 67th anniversary, Mikati declared that the government is willing to gear up the army through endorsing a comprehensive four-year plan to reinforce the military institution's potentials by a USD 1.600 billion.

He also said that the government has decided to deploy army units on the Lebanese Northern and Bekaa borders to reinstate security and stability.

As for the second step, Mikati said it ought to be done through holding an international gathering under the shade of the UN in order to ensure adequate equipment for the army, building on the international concern in that respect according to the 1701 resolution.
