Qmati after meeting over Costa Brava landfill: Agreement reached over road map for solution

State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mahmoud Qmati declared Wednesday that the issue related to the closure of the Costa Brava landfill is not new but has been postponed, stressing that the matter is not linked to any current political development.

Following a meeting with Prime Minister Saad Hariri that included a delegation from the federation of municipalities of Beirut’s southern suburb, Qmati noted that the measure aims at reaching radical solution for the waste crisis.

“The meeting with PM Hariri was positive and an agreement has been reach over a road map to solution,” he stated.

In the same context, the minister explained that there is a temporary solution and another radical solution for the garbage problem in Lebanon, adding that the sanitary landfills are the temporary solution until the radical one can be found.

“If a radical solution started being implemented today, it will require 4 years and will cover all the Lebanese regions,” Qmati pointed out.
