President Michel Aoun received on Monday at the Baabda presidential palace Director General for Political Affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Richard Moore, in the presence of British Ambassador to Lebanon Chris Rampling and State Minister for presidential affairs Salim Jreissati.
During the meeting, Aoun praised “the Lebanese-British relations and the ongoing cooperation on all levels, mainly Britain’s continuous support for the Lebanese army, especially the border regiments,” noting that signing the Lebanese-British partnership agreement was the most recent achievements accomplished before the resignation of the cabinet.
Aoun also briefed Moore of the general situation in Lebanon, in terms of the starting points of the current crisis and the possible solutions.
He also tackled the issue of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the repercussions affecting all the sectors.
In turn, the British envoy thanked President Aoun for the meeting and briefed him on the meeting that was held in Paris in the presence of representatives of France, Britain and the United States, which tackled the situation in Lebanon and means to provide assistance.
In this context, Moore stressed his country’s commitment to help Lebanon and support its constitutional legitimacy, pointing out that Britain supports the formation of a new government without meaning to interfere in the Lebanese internal affairs.
