Al-Masqa residents protest random digging of sewage pipes

The residents of the town of al-Masqa, Metn, staged on Thursday a sit-in at the town’s square, to protest the works conducted by the municipality of the neighboring town of al-Ghaba. The works include random digging of sewage pipes, leading their content to pour into the watercourse near al-Masqa’s cemetery, church and residential buildings.

The protesters stressed that “these works are morally harmful, due to the proximity between the watercourse and the cemetery, and constitutes an environmental hazard affecting nearby residential areas, "due to foul odors that in turn attract insects and parasites”.

The mayor of al-Ghaba town Amine Abou Jaoude came to the sit-in location, accompanied by his companions, and had a verbal clash with the protesters who filed a complaint against Abou Jaoude later on.
