Higher Defense Council convenes at Baabda

The Higher Defense Council convened on Tuesday at the Baabda Presidential Palace under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun.

At the beginning of the meeting, Aoun slammed the prices hike, stressing the need to take the necessary measures to protect the Lebanese consumers.

For his part, Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that the general assessment of the second phase of easing the lockdown is good, voicing fears of a second wave of the pandemic.

He then suggested the extension of the lockdown for two additional weeks.

On another note, Diab said that the prices hike are being followed up on by himself and in coordination with the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Hamad Hassan said that Lebanon is still facing the danger of a pandemic spread, adding that restrictions must be kept in order to avoid a second wave.
