Mikati says cabinet determined to continue its duties

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Saturday that imposing conditions for the resumption of the dialogue, called for by President Michel Sleiman, practically means that some parties intend to push the situation towards further complications, instead of encouraging meetings to discuss all the issues, mainly the issue of finding ways to keep Lebanon away from the repercussions of the regional incidents.         

While receiving visitors, Mikati noted that the opposition has the right to call for the cabinet's resignation and to take steps it sees necessary to implement its demands within the constitution. However, he asked: "do boycotting public institutions, mainly the Parliament, target the cabinet, or aim at hindering the people's interests?"          

In this context, Mikati pointed that the country must not fall into void and chaos, stressing that the government is proceeding in handling all pending issues, especially the financial and economic issues as well as the file of administrative appointments.             

"The cabinet is proceeding with its work and will not be stopped by defamation campaigns, because we are determined to reply to statements by actions that benefit the Lebanese people and protect the country," Mikati said.
