REPORT: Achrafieh's affected people face issues in finding homes

Two weeks after the explosion rocked Achrafieh, eleven families are still homeless, some currently live in a hotel with the help of a political party or an organization, while others decided to live in alternative houses.            

Elie Safi, one of the explosion's affected people, said that after the explosion he stayed at Alexander Hotel, but left at the end of the month and rented an apartment in Achrafieh. He stresses that the High Relief Commission paid 1000 dollars, noting that renovating the destroyed building could create a new crisis represented by the fact that they will have to renew the rent contracts, which will be another problem.            

For her part, Mathilda Mtanios expressed her pain in a statement to LBCI as she said: "We are displaced and afflicted, since Achrafieh residents are not allowing us to rent their apartments under the pretext that there are no guarantees for payments, which is shameful."                

"The government did not fulfill its duties, we did not receive any aid from any side except for the High Relief Commission which is paying a small amount," she added.
