Sleiman: Dialogue is a need, we must not question credibility of interlocutors

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman emphasized on Saturday the meaning and significance of independence, urging all to maintain it through word and act alike, by supporting the work of institutions, particularly the security and judicial ones, stressing the importance of dialogue.

"Dialogue is not temporary and is unconditional," Sleiman said, adding that one must not rush into questioning the credibility of interlocutors, "for they are our national partners."

The President's words came during his meeting with runners of a symbolic race, which started in Rashaya and ended at the presidential palace in Baabda, on the occasion of Independence Day.

Separately, Sleiman contacted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas who briefed him on the latest developments in Gaza. He expressed Lebanon's unwavering support for the right of Palestinians to return to their land, denouncing "terrorism and repression Israel is practicing in the Gaza Strip."
