REPORT: Reasons behind delay in Michel Samaha's case

Judicial sources denied, in a statement to LBCI, any political pressure affecting the case or that the judge in charge of the case of the former Minister Michel Samaha is intending to step down, noting that a meeting will be held next week between the General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi and the Military Investigation Judge Riad Abou Ghaida.         

The sources stressed that the delay in finalizing the case is due to a delay in the investigations adding that there is still measures to be taken, as Samaha has not appeared before the judge since three months, in order to continue the investigations.             

Commenting on the fact that an arrest warrant has not yet been issued against Ali Mamlouk under pretext of unavailability of the mother's name, the sources said that the Lebanese Judiciary cannot issue such warrants when the required information are not available, to avoid confusion.               

On the other hand, security sources informed of the course of the investigation, said that the interrogation file is complete and there is no excuse for the delay in the case.
