Explosion heard south of Ter Harfa town

An explosion was heard on Monday in the south of the town of Ter Harfa, Tyre, near the border with Israel.

UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tennetti announced that the International Forces had sent peacekeepers to the site of the explosion and is currently coordinating with the Lebanese Armed Forces to reveal the circumstances behind the blast.

Town Mayor Hussein Kassem Haidar said that the explosion occurred as a result of ammunition remaining from the Israeli onslaught against Lebanon in 2006.
Haidar called on the Lebanese government to come to the aid of Southern residents and help clear the land of such munitions.
