Relatives of Islamist detainees stage sit in outside Mikati's house

The relatives of the Islamist detainees and those killed in Syria's Talkalakh staged a sit in outside the residence of Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Tripoli following noon prayers.

The relatives called for the release of the detained Islamists and for handing over all  the Lebanese who were killed in Syria.

Security forces rushed to the scene early in the morning and took the appropriate measures to prevent any incidents.

At the end of their sit in, relatives of the Islamist detainees called for another protest to be held on Sunday in the Al-Arida region across the Syrian border.

On the 30th of November 2012, reports emerged saying that a number of Lebanese nationals died in a Syrian ambush in the bordering town of Talkalakh.

At least 14 Lebanese and Palestinian gunmen from north Lebanon were reportedly killed, with three wounded and detained in the ambush. Syrian state television aired graphic video of the dead men, riddled with gunshot wounds and lying in the grass.

Families of the dead and missing have been protesting in Tripoli, demanding that the Lebanese government return the bodies and determine the whereabouts of those missing.
