The draft elections law proposed by Gemayel in detail

Kataeb member MP Sami Gemayel proposed a draft law seeking to add a parliamentary seat for Syriac communities and another seat for the Muwahideen al-Druze community.    

During the meeting of the sub-committee emanating from the joint parliamentary committees for the electoral law, Gemayel suggested his draft law as follows:  

- Item 1: The Lebanese Parliament composed of 130 MPs with a term of 4 years in office.     

- Item 2: One MP representing Syriac communities and another representing the Muwahideen al-Druze are added to the current total number of MPs. The table of MPs distributions becomes as follows: 27 for the Sunni community, 27 for Shiites, 9 for the Druze community, 34 for the Maronite community, 14 for the Greek Orthodox community, 1 for Evangelicals, 1 for the Armenian Catholic community, 5 for the Armenian Orthodox community, 1 for minority groups, 1 for the Syriac community, 1 for the Alawite community; the total number of MPs reaching 130.    

Gemayel pointed out that when the last electoral law was drafted, it failed to observe MPs for Syriac, Orthodox and Catholic communities.
