Kanaan stresses bloc’s support for Orthodox gathering proposal

Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan stressed on Tuesday that the position of the bloc is still in favor of the Orthodox gathering’s electoral proposal presented by MPs Alain Aoun and Nematallah Abi Nasr, noting that the bloc did not see any other practical, serious and constructive proposal presented by those who continuously criticize the Orthodox draft law.          

Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, Kanaan said that the Orthodox proposal ensures fair representation, seemingly since other laws which do not aptly represent the people are dubbed unconstitutional, pointing that whoever seeks to adopt such laws must assume responsibility for their actions.            

“We must respect our Constitution and the Orthodox gathering’s proposal is the only suggestion that is considered up to par,” he added.          

On the other hand, Kanaan pointed that Parliament speaker Nabih Berri is well aware of his duties, and the demands of the Free Patriotic Movement became well known.             

Kanaan also called on the Future Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party to "admit the fact that the Christians are being marginalized", urging them to approve the Orthodox gathering electoral proposal.
