Sleiman posts position on civil marriage on Twitter, triggers chain of reactions

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman continued on Sunday his visit to Russia, where he is expected to receive from the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the “International Social Fund” award for the unity of Orthodox communities.

Sleiman had appeared on Sunday morning on Twitter, where he called for legitimizing the civil marriage contract which constitutes a step toward ending sectarianism and promoting coexistence.

Sleiman’s tweet triggered many supporting reactions by young people who called for implementing the president’s position.

On the other hand, a small number of people rejected the civil marriage, while many praised the position of the president, describing it as “a great step that gives the Lebanese citizen one of his most important rights.”

Among the supporters of the president’s position were Aline Mdawar, Sirine Abdel Nour, Elissa and Razan Moughrabi as well as many others.
