Al-Faisal urges UNSC to enable Syrian people to defend themselves

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Soud al-Faisal urged on Tuesday the UN Security Council to fulfill its duties and take a hard stance towards the Syrian crisis in order to preserve the independence and sovereignty of Syria and the legitimate rights of its people.

During a joint conference held his Austrian counterpart Dr. Michael Spender in Riyadh, Prince Soud recalled the continued intransigence of the Syrian regime for the transfer of power and access to a peaceful solution and continued bloodsheds, calling on the UNSC at least to enable the Syrians to defend themselves.

Commenting on the Iranian nuclear dossier, he said that the Iranians have confessed their intention to make a nuclear bomb, which is contrary to international laws on the prevention of proliferation of nuclear weapons.

He reiterated the call to make the Middle East a zone free of nuclear weapons.
