Civil Society activists protesting Orthodox Law block road outside Parliament

Civil society activists cut off the road outside Parliament on Tuesday evening in protest of the Orthodox Gathering Law’s approval by the joint committee earlier today.

Protesters considered that the Orthodox Gathering’s law is a “sectarian law which leads to the division of Lebanon.” They refused the increase of the number of MPs from 128 to 134 which, according to them, “would increase burdens on the shoulders of the state.” They also objected the cabinet’s failure to approve and fund the ranks and salaries scale and its failure to approve any reform to put an end to waste and corruption.

The road was shortly reopened, however civil society activist vowed to escalate their movement should the law be ratified.
