Gemayel: Talks over the electoral law slightly disrupted ties within March 14

The Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel declared on Monday that talks over the electoral law slightly disrupted ties within March 14, stressing on the other hand that they have common goals and they will seek to reinforce the coalition.          

In this context, he said that the party’s contacts with all political parties are ongoing in a bid to agree on an electoral law that would reassure everyone, pointing out that the current debate is not related to the Orthodox gathering’s draft law.               

Following the regular meeting of the Kataeb’s political bureau, Gemayel noted that the Kataeb party has presented many solution proposals, stating that they are keen on Lebanon’s general interest.            

On another note, he said that citizens are being abused and kidnapped in exchange for ransoms, stressing that this anarchy is unacceptable and will have dire consequences. “This is a new phenomenon, which we are not used to witnessing,” he added.                   

On the Syrian crisis, Gemayel stressed that the situation in Syria is unacceptable, adding that some parties are not complying with the self-distancing policy agreed upon in Baabda.                  

However, he expressed his surprise toward the fact that, after a Syrian official has been accused of being involved in the case of former Minister Michel Samaha, the Lebanese government and the Foreign Ministry have not yet reacted diplomatically.
