Higher Islamic Council holds extraordinary meeting

The Higher Islamic Council held an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday where they condemned the attack against Dar al-Fatwa clerics in Khandak al-Ghamik and Shiyah, calling on the security and judicial authorities to reveal the inciters, planners and the rest of the attackers.          

On the issue of the council's elections, the conferees appreciated the position taken by the prime ministers which aimed at setting up a plan to enable the council to perform its legal duties, calling on the Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rachid Qabbani to respond to the calls of the officials.                  

However, the council requested the referral of the case of the attack against the Sheikhs to the Judicial Council, given that it is considered as a national case, affecting public order.      

Two sheikhs from Dar al-Fatwa, Mazen Hariri and Ahmad Fakhran were attacked on Sunday, in the region of al-Khandak al-Ghamik, while they were heading to Mohammad al-Amin Mosque.                

The sheikhs were immediately taken to al-Makassed hospital for treatment.                    

The Lebanese Armed Forces arrested 3 persons involved in attacking the Sunni clerics.              

The attack was not only limited to the 2 Sheikh in al-Khandak al-Ghamik; reports said that 2 other clerics were attacked in the Shiyah area.                

They were identified as Sheikh Omar Imami and Shiekh Ibrahim Abdul Latif. They was transported to the Shtoura hospital after receiving first aid treatment in Beirut.
