ICRC president regrets the suffering of Syrian refugees in Lebanon

The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer expressed on Thursday his regret and grief toward the difficult conditions in which the Syrian refugees in Lebanon are enduring.

During a press conference held at Beirut International Airport prior to his departure, Maurer noted that the Syrian refugees are in need of shelter and medication, pointing out that “their situation is worsening day after day.”

Earlier in the day, Maurer had met with President Michel Sleiman and was informed by Lebanese officials of the efforts deployed by the government to help the displaced Syrians. He then made a field tour to the refugee camps in the Bekaa region.
