Maronite League voices support for Rai’s stances

The Maronite League issued a statement on Wednesday whereby it expressed its support for the positions voiced by Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai in the French capital Paris, following his meetings with President Francois Hollande and Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

The League said that Rai’s stances go in line with the historical position of the Maronite Patriarchate which has always been keen on preserving democracy, public freedom and coexistence between the Lebanese people as well as deepening relations between communities.

Cardinal Rai left Beirut on Monday March 8th and headed for Paris, where he held several meetings, with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and French President Francois Hollande as well as with other officials and delegations representing the Lebanese communities.

Following his trip to France, Rai kicked off a pastoral tour in Latin America, which will last until the end of May and which includes Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Colombia and Venezuela.
