Rizk to LBCI: Lebanon does not enjoy any independence

Former Justice Minister Charles Rizk said on Saturday that “the electoral ball in not actually in the Christians’ court,” noting that there is a political party supporting Hezbollah and the decisions it is making.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Rizk said that Lebanon has witnessed flexibility concerning the designation of the Prime Minister, but has not yet witnessed such flexibility in the formation process, pointing out that the country is getting affected by regional events.

“The Lebanese positions get affected by the regional situation, Lebanon does not enjoy any independence,” he said.

However, Rizk said that the most suitable electoral law is the one that guarantees a political combination which goes beyond sectarian divisions, stressing that the electoral law which will be passed will only be a “quotas law” based on a certain distribution of parliamentary seats.

“The elections will take place, not according to the local situation, but to the regional developments,” Rizk said.
