Bogdanov ends visit to Beirut, says he held positive meetings

The Russian deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Sunday that he held positive meetings in Beirut, noting that he will deliver a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin from President Michel Sleiman with whom he held a lengthy meeting.

Speaking from the airport at the end of his visit to Beirut, Bogdanov declared that he discussed with Speaker Nabih Berri the situation in Lebanon and Syria, noting that he also held “pleasant” meetings with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam.

On the other hand, he said that he discussed with Bishop Elias Aoude the situation of the Orthodox in the region and tackled the case of the kidnapping of the two Bishops in Aleppo.

He revealed that he also received at the Russian embassy a delegation from the Syrian opposition and discussed the situation in Syria and the possibility of reaching a settlement to end the war raging in the country.
